You are just waking up to that? There is no logical reason for a male in the USA to get married under the auspices of family law. Lawyers family law feminist law, for obvious reasons. For men, it is a machine for the manufacture of suffering. A man almost certainly loses their children, their money and if you annoy your wife, their civil rights, freedom and career. It provides the only instance of debtors prison in the new world. So how does it prevail. Well, it is difficult to discover this until it is too late. The same political correctness that precludes certain subjects from being discussed in the Universities(cf Harvard etc) and the mainstream media keeps the male side of the story invisible to the public eye. Do a search of mainstream US media. All the stories about family are written by women. All the stories about boys and fathers are written by women, and mostly by feminists. It is rumored that all stories about divorce have to be vetted by NOW, but no one has proven that to date. You can bet your bottom dollar that when Hillary Clinton is crowned, whoops, inaugurated, then things will get much worse for men. So what to do. An increasing number of men are signing domestic partnership agreements or form corporate partnerships with well defined separation agreements. The trick is to start a family outside of the piranhas pool of family law. For men, the great hope is that gays males, who are the only politiy correct males , can legalize gay marriage and, as liberal retribution, ban straight marriage. Since you seem to live outside the US there may be a business opportunity to arrange marriages for American couples in your country that have to, in the event of a separation, be adjuticated under your law and hopefully in your land.
