Our population is much larger than either of those countries, and there are additional factors here outside of who ends up paying for it that make the cost of healthcare very high. Addressing those would be a great starting point, regardless of how the healthcare itself ultimately gets paid for.

Not when almost half of what you were getting paid goes to paying for insurance and payments on your massive student loans. Most of them don't make xk anyway. We already have a shortage of primary care doctors because it's less lucrative than other positions. And all of the positions still require a huge amount of schooling, internship, and the number of new doctors that can make it to med school each year is limited by the government at the behest of the AMA.
