As I get older, I find it's harder to make new friends. When I was younger, I could meet someone in the bathroom of a club and end of being friends with this person. Now, that seems to have changed. I seem to be in the middle area of my life since many people my age have children and I don't. Younger people I get along with on a different level since my partying is limited, but I feel young and act young so I fit in a little bit with them. I work a lot during the week and even on the weekends sometimes to pay off my schooling, so that limits the time I have to spend. My bf and I have friends together, but I'd like to have just my girl friends. I've tried to make friends at work, but that never ends good. I just found out today that someone I confided in about something work realted-luckily not something very important - told one person, who told another, who told another. I am really let down today about this. This isn't the first time that this has happened either at work. Last time I was chatting with someone from HR and the same thing happened. Has anyone else been in this position in their life?

yeah i'm there now. mid thirties, married, no . friends are hard to come by because people in my age bracket are tied up with work, , divorces, marriages, etc. Everyone wants to be friends, I believe that. But it's like a priority two or three or four all around. So it doesn't happen.

I feel like that also People are always friendly and even at work, it's just taking the next step and going out or getting a drink. Honestly, I get along fine with women in their 40's since the are gone and they are willing to go out and have some drinks. it would just be nice to have someone my age.

Volunteer at an organization that does something you're interested in....museum, homeless shelter, whatever. If you have a dog take him walking in the park or on a trail and meet other dog owners. Join a book club at your local library or book store -- lots of women do that. Or some other kind of club -- knitting clubs are big right now. Get out there and talk to people. Good luck.

The thing to do is spend five minutes thinking about what matters to you right now. What's important to you? Do you even know? Go write it down. Seriously. Next, figure out how to become involved in one or two of those things. THAT is where you will make friendships of the substantial variety. Work and bar bathrooms aren't favorable "make a new friend today" spots.

My point about the bathroom was just being in the right place and being friendly, I actually made a new friend and that actually happened a couple times to me. I have to treat work differently now. I know it's important for my work not to rely on others.

You did an exceptional job of avoiding the main point of my post. Right - you're changing - it's ed ageing. Leave work relationships to work relationships. You're going to have to try something else. Be genuine about it by being involved in something that matters to you. What better way to meet people and make new friends..

Try to comprehend that I realize that the people I work with are co-workers after all of this. FYI - my best friend is someone I met at work over 10 years ago, so I think friends can be made anywhere. I'm going through a slump right now.

Your painful slump is a result of your own thinking. Age changes us and you're not keeping up. What was has nothing to do with what is.

See? Your sarcasm is an example of what I'm talking about. You seem to be looking for compassion when what you need is to check your thinking. Good thing there's lots of replies to your post. Your attitude generates the sort of momentum that'll keep you going in circles.

No, I just think it's a light post and your crude attitude comes out in your posts - as does your history prove. I am not looking for compassion, merely responses of people of who have been through the same situation. I did get a lot of responses and appreciate them, but only one like yours. Maybe stick to recovery, your cynicism is more appreciated there.

People forget how easily you find history Some people play the roll as the prick. Maybe it's an alter ego or something, or we all know people who live their lives as the insensitive a**hole.
